Autonomous library inventory management with the Nex.Robot InvenTORY
Nexbib, provider of flexible RFID solutions for libraries, and MetraLabs GmbH, manufacturer of autonomous robots, announce their worldwide collaboration with a new inventory robot especially developed for libraries. The autonomous assistant detects precise RFID transponders in the HF frequency range 13.56 MHz, which are also used in self-service, return and sorting systems for libraries.
Sven Carlson, Managing Director at Nexbib, explains: “The need for intelligent, reliable solutions for inventory maintenance and control is high. Together with MetraLabs, a visionary professional partner in the robotics market, we have developed an advanced product that meets the individual and practical expectations of public and academic libraries.”
Dr. Andreas Bley, Managing Director at MetraLabs, shares his experience: “The use of the technology speaks for itself: with a rate of more than 99%, the robot captures tagged books on the shelf. The robot outperforms the speed of a conventional, manual inventory process by a factor of 10.”
The current TORY RFID inventory robot from MetraLabs, which is designed for UHF tags and already established in the retail sector since 2015, has now been developed further to also detect the HF tags typical for libraries’ environments.
The new Nex.Robot InvenTORY takes over the inventory management and localisation of all books completely autonomously. The robot moves independently through the aisles of the library and, thanks to its safe navigation, can be used without restrictions both at night and during the day. Antennas at different heights guarantee that all media and all shelf measurements are precisely detected. Misplaced media are easily found by the robot. Media on certain topics or those with high demand can be quickly selected for a promotional display.
The Nex.Robot InvenTORY had its world premiere at GITEX Global in mid October, internationally the most iconic tech event. While experiencing the robot in action and witnessing its capabilities, visitors were genuinely excited.
